President Tom Wilson led a very successful visit to Denmark to see our twinning link Ballerup Rotary Club.
Another success in his year was raising over £4000 for “Relay for Life“ with members participating in a sponsored walk. This money went to Cancer Research.
On the international front we contributed 119 shoe boxes and the Girl Guides filled another two Aqua boxes this is the second time that they have helped.
£1000.00 donated to the New Hospice appeal in East Kilbride. New Rotarian name badges purchased at £6.50 each. £250 to Woman’s Aid, £250 to Enable and £250 to Loaves & Fishes, Crossroads £1025.
Editor of Club Magazine requested more help from the Membership thus making his task easier.
Painting of the underpass had been given the green light now and we now had to get Rotarians to fulfil the task.
Annual subscription and meals all to be paid by standing order at a monthly rate of £33.00 with illness and domestic circumstances being a reason for a refund.
Club took on board the transporting of Ruby Anderson to the handicap club in Dennistoun, Glasgow the same club that we were involved with over forty years ago.
The Club was involved with hosting a Tasmanian Group Study Exchange party and the Canadian Curling touring party.
A successful District Conference at Dundee

Our objective firstly was to work along side the Local Authority who agreed to wet blast the walls and ceiling clean, erect shuttering to separate the public from the working area and up date lighting within the underpass. We then arranged a design competition among local artists to design a suitable wall mural to replace the Graffiti. The project began with physical effort of Rotarians from East Kilbride Club to complete the painting element of the project with blood, sweat and a lot of laughter!
For this type of project to be effective, strict surface coating procedures must be adhered to. Fortunately within our club, we have a member who has the necessary skills to satisfy all that was required and our efforts can be seen in the accompanying photograph where the Rotary Wheel plays an integral part of the mural. The major advantage of what we have achieved is not that it will immediately stop Graffiti on the walls - nothing will do that - but any graffiti can be easily removed with graffiti wipes (similar to baby wipes) thus remaking it easier to keep control of and hopefully the local graffitists will leave the treated walls alone. More importantly we have upgraded a drab, dismal underpass to something a lot more user friendly and above all safe for the users.
